Nick-Zano_l

From Ausiello : "As I previously reported, Courteney Cox’s Cougar Town boy toy, Nick Zano, is relocating to Melrose Place in early January to play an irreverent doctor who prescribes some extra strength chill pills to reluctant prostitute Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen). In his first interview since being cast, the actor sounds off on his character’s big secret, Melrose’s sexy, fun makeover, and the downside to having an eight-pack.

Congrats on landing the role.
NICK ZANO:
Thank you. I appreciate that.

Tell me a little bit about this guy.
ZANO:
He’s a person who enjoys life. He lives every day to [its fullest]… I just literally walked out of a meeting with [exec producers] Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin. They were very specific about how they’re going to change the direction of the show. In TV, you usually don’t get a chance to fix anything. It’s always easier to cancel something than fix it. And The CW clearly has a passion for the show, because it’s still on the air. And all of these people are making a very concentrated effort to improve the show and I’m happy to be a part of it.

How are we introduced to him?
ZANO:
He moves into the building and works at the local hospital.

Do we first meet him in the building or at the hospital?
ZANO:
The building. You’re spoiling!

Um, that’s what I do.
ZANO:
By the way, good job on calling out my casting days in advance. You’re like the FBI of show business. You’re a regular gumshoe.

Thanks. I think. Are you allowed to say who your roommate is in the building?
ZANO:
No.

Are you allowed to say who your love interest is?
ZANO:
Nope. But without question, I’m sure you’ll find out.

The producers already teased that you’ll befriend Lauren at the hospital.
ZANO:
Lauren takes a very serious look at life. [But], in my character’s eyes, she is missing life.

Are you a series regular?
ZANO:
I’m recurring right now.

Is it safe to say that your character is hiding something?
ZANO:
It’s Melrose Place. Everybody has a secret. That’s all you’re getting out of me, man.

Did the producers coach you before this interview?
ZANO:
[Laughs] No.

Are you prepared for all the gratuitous nudity?
ZANO:
Have you seen Cougar Town? I have no choice, man.

Are you uncomfortable with it?
ZANO:
It’s not something I look forward to. I don’t dread it. It’s definitely something I’d like to be known less for in the future.

So we shouldn’t accompany this story with a shot of you shirtless?
ZANO:
I would love it if you could find one of me in a scarf."

Well, that's all very nice and everything and I love fun characters but let's face it people : this is MELROSE PLACE !! What we want is bitches trying to kill each other and destroy their neighbours lives !!!!!!!! Bring Sidney (and/or Violet) back !!! Well, I guess Amanda being back will help the show move in that direction but we need the new Sidney (crazy but nice) and Kimberley (just crazy !!) !!! Catfights, blackmail, murders... That's what the show is all about !! It needs to be fun and light but also crazy and dark !! Don't you agree ?

Nick-Zano_l

From Ausiello : "Melrose Place’s “fun and sexy” new makeover has a face — and it’s a pretty one at that.

Nick Zano, who’s currently playing Courteney Cox’s boy-toy on Cougar Town, is in talks to join The CW reboot as a pseudo-replacement for Colin Egglesfield’s dark, brooding Auggie, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Zano would be playing a doctor who works with Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) and Michael (Thomas Calabro) at Wilshire Memorial. In an interview last week, executive producer Todd Slavkin described the character as “irreverent and funny… He will move into the [apartment] building. He doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him, and he ends up lightening up Lauren.”

SPOILER ALERT: I’m told Zano’s Melrose gig wouldn’t interfere with his Cougar Town commitment since he recently shot his final episode of the ABC comedy."

Heather Locklear, Melrose Place Patrick Wymore/The CW

From Kristin : "Heather is back on Melrose for the long haul, and her storyline is juicy. Plus, Sydney is sticking around! Jessica Lucas (Riley) tells us that after the not-so-big murder reveal, the show shifts to lots of Amanda Woodward and whatever it is she's hiding. "The back nine will be focusing on Heather. There is some kind of mystery there between her and Sydney, so Laura Leighton may be staying on in some form," says Jessica. As for the spoiled send-off, don't be too upset. Melrose's resident teacher says the reveal is still pretty amazing. "Episode 12 is the whole wrap of the murder mystery, so something really shocking happens in the pool. It ties in with the murder mystery, but it's something completely unexpected.""

I think it's great that they're not bringing her back just for stunt casting like they did with Jane (and Jo) ! At the end of the episode with Jane, it felt like she was there to stay and then she's gone just like that, no exlpaination and we don't know when she's coming back !! That was lame !
It's the same mistake they made on 90210 ! Having the originals come back just for one or two episodes without any real storyline, it's just stupid !
At least this time she's coming back for real with a real storyline ! At least for the remaining of the season. And it's a great thing that Sydney will be used more, even if she's dead, because she's the most interesting character on the show and she's way too underused !! I can't wait to learn more about Amanda's mystery !!

ausiello-melrose-place-ashley_l

From Ausiello : "Two months into its run, The CW’s ratings-challenged (but creatively-smokin’) Melrose Place reboot is about to undergo a major renovation. For starters, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield have been let go (they’ll last air in January), and the “Who Killed Sydney?” mystery is being wrapped up in December. Then, in addition to Heather Locklear’s Amanda, several new characters will be introduced and the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe. Here, in an exclusive interview, exec producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer explain why they’re fixing a series that many (myself included) felt wasn’t broken and tease what’s ahead for Melrose 2.0 3.0.

What was behind the decision to let Ashlee and Colin go?
TODD SLAVKIN:
Well, we always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12. And we always knew that [Ashlee's] character of Violet would be instrumental in that as a suspect, and [Colin's character of] Augie as well. And once that murder mystery was solved, she would go on her way. That was the original plan going into the development of the show.

So it was always the plan for Ashlee to leave after episode 12?
SLAVKIN:
Yes. Because we felt that once the murder mystery was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift into a much more fun, romantic, sexy upbeat kind of show, and [her] character would move on.

Same thing with Colin?
SLAVKIN:
Colin was always meant to be the ultimate suspect. And his brooding alcoholic [character] tonally didn’t fit the paradigm moving into post-murder mystery Melrose Place.

Is it fair to say that if either of those characters clicked you would’ve found a way to keep them?
SLAVKIN:
Well, you never know when you go along. But in the end, we felt like it was right [decision].
DARREN SWIMMER: The nature of soaps is that as things progress along, the story takes on a life of its own and the characters come and go in relation to that.

How did Ashlee and Colin take the news?
SLAVKIN:
They’re total professionals and they took it like professionals. When you go into a show you never know what’s going to evolve and what the possibilities are. But because they knew ahead of time [that leaving was a possibility], it wasn’t a complete shock.

People are going to look at these changes and assume it’s a direct result of the show’s disappointing ratings.
SLAVKIN:
Well, I understand that perspective. None of us foresaw the ratings; there’s nothing we can do about that. All we can do is write and produce the best show we know how. It’s fine to speculate, but in the end there was always a plan.

What about Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro? Are they leaving, too?
SLAVKIN:
Thomas is very much a part of the fabric of this show. Many storylines are ahead for him. You’ll get to see him interact with his old friend Amanda Woodward as well as all the characters on our show. With Laura, we would never close the door officially. She did her part in the murder mystery. We love her. We think she is gorgeous and a great actress and would love to have her be involved in the future, but there is no plan at the moment.

Can you elaborate on the tonal shift?
SLAVKIN:
Now that the characters are no longer suspects, they can have a great time, they can focus on their careers, they can get into bed with each other without having this ominous cloud hanging over the building… But this is still Melrose Place. There’s still going to be intrigue on the show.

Do you think viewers were turned off by the dark nature of the show?
SWIMMER:
Who knows why the ratings aren’t better? I think for us, it’s just a matter of moving on in the direction we [always] wanted to go.

Some people might wonder why you’re fixing what’s not broken. Personally, I love the show.
SLAVKIN:
Which we understand and I totally get that. I think our feeling is that TV shows need to evolve. Mike, you’re a fan of Smallville. You’ve watched that show and you’ve seen the evolution in that show. Characters come and go. This being much more of a soap opera, we feel that it’s heated up more rapidly, where characters come and go and have arcs and move on. There will be new characters coming in.

Tell me about those new characters.
SLAVKIN:
There’s a doctor, a new resident at the hospital who is irreverent and funny and will mix it up and move into the building. He will be a roommate of one of the characters and interact with Lauren. He’s a guy that, even though he’s a doctor, he doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him and he ends up lightening up Lauren. We think this guy’s a lot of fun and is going to mix it up in a great way with the rest of the cast.

Has the role been cast?
SLAVKIN:
Not yet.

Any other new characters?
SWIMMER:
We have [Heather Locklear's] new love interest played by Billy Campbell. He has a three-episode arc. He plays basically a billionaire version of Jonah. He’s the equivalent of a Mark Cuban. Again, a lot of fun, funny, irreverent, and is someone who can actually make Amanda Woodward smile.

How long do you have Heather for?
SLAVKIN:
A long time. She’s in every episode moving forward. She’s a major focus [of the show]. She has a hidden agenda that will become not so hidden as the episodes move along. She’s not just the boss of Ella [Katie Cassidy].

Does Heather still have it?
SLAVKIN:
Absolutely. Not only is she so fun as Amanda, but she’s such an amazing, hysterical woman. Her [return] is going to be a big moment on Melrose Place."

YEAH !!!!!!!!! The only problem with Heather returning is her face !! Way too much plastic surgery ! But hey : we still love her right ?!!! Welcome back bitch !!

Jessica Lucas, Daphne Zuniga

From tvguide.com : "Jessica Lucas knows that signing on to play Riley, one-half of Melrose Place's happy couple (Michael Rady's Jonah is the other half), is a risky move on a show so single-centric. For that reason, she says, "What was important to me ... [was] establishing Riley away from Jonah and as having a strong point of view." Though she sings Rady's praises, let's face it: Nobody stays together forever on this show like this. "We're kind of headed down that road," Lucas admits. But first, she'll pose on a beach for photographer Jo Reynolds (original cast member Daphne Zuniga), who returns to Melrose for two episodes this season starting Tuesday (9/8c, CW). Lucas tells us why Riley isn't cut out to be a model, what Zuniga told her and why we should all brace ourselves for the cutest breakup ever.

TVGuide.com: So how does Riley end up hanging out with Jo Reynolds?
Jessica Lucas: It's a coincidence. She's the photographer for the [Anton V.] shoot. Riley is actually a huge fan of hers because she took pictures of Darfur that Riley studied at NYU. They have a weird connection in that way.

TVGuide.com: So that's it? No more Schoolteacher Riley? She's officially a model?
Lucas: Well, no, not quite. I mean, she does go back to being a schoolteacher. She is just taking the week off so she and Jonah can get the money, but she encounters some issues with [modeling]. She gets pushed to her limits, and she's not so happy. Jo is very hard on her.

TVGuide.com: So Riley won't be seduced by this superficial lifestyle?
Lucas: No, I would say the exact opposite. In fact, her one experience with it leaves a horrible taste in her mouth. I do think, though, that it's a great thing for the character in the sense that she really stands up for herself. From then on, she becomes a bit stronger, which is good because she and Jonah are dealing with a lot of relationship issues.

TVGuide.com: So how long before they break up?
Lucas: Well, I mean, they are kind of headed down that path. He finds out about the whole Auggie thing. He meets someone else. It's a rocky road for them. I mean, they really do try to work through it, but I really don't know how long that's going to be able to go on. It's sad.

TVGuide.com: Did Daphne have any stories or advice from the good old days?
Lucas: Yeah, she told me that in the beginning, [Melrose Place] was a show about a bunch of people living in an apartment complex and it wasn't at all dramatic, and the ratings were terrible. And then Heather [Locklear] came on and they turned it around, and it turned into this crazy show with outlandish story lines, and that was not the show she had signed up to do. So she thought it was funny.

TVGuide.com: Did you have any scenes with Heather Locklear?
Lucas: I did. We did a big group scene in the courtyard with Heather. She was saying that she's a really shy person, so she was really nervous to have to do this scene with all of us, which is funny because she's such an icon. She's just really sweet and charismatic and down to earth. She plays a great bitch, but she's so the opposite in real life. It was fun to see her switch and turn on that character.

TVGuide.com: What's next for Riley?
Lucas: There are more story lines with her and Auggie; she still feels a very strong pull toward him. [Also coming up is] the launch of the ad campaign, and I have to deal with being the center of attention again.

TVGuide.com: So Riley might pursue a different career path after all?
Lucas: She might."

Katie Cassidy, Melrose Place Michael Desmond/The CW

From Kristin : 'Melrose Place is about to get wild. Not only is Heather Locklear in the house and causing Amanda Woodward's usual brand of havoc, but there's a major character death coming!

We just caught up with Melrose babe Katie Cassidy (ain't she gorgeous?!) and she filled us in on all the gory deets about Ella's troubled future.

Read on for the scoop about how Amanda stirs things up for Melrose Place's new queen bee, plus what the character death means for the gang.

So first up, is Ella the one who gets whacked? "I can't tell you!" says Katie, "But I think everyone's going to be surprised. [The death] is a shocker, but at the same time, it's really good."

Look for the character death to reflect everything we've learned about the new Melrose Place peeps so far, and for it to be the turning point of the season so far!

In other news, Heather Locklear returns to the series on Nov. 17, and we hear that Amanda Woodward and Katie's Ella Sims have some choice scenes together. Katie tells us, "Heather is amazing. I've had so much fun working with her. She's a really cool chick and it's been really great to work with her. I'm happy she came on the show."

So are Ella and Amanda friends or foes? Katie tells us, "I think Ella looks up to Amanda and ultimately wants to be her, but she isn't—Ella's her own character, Ella's different. That said, with Amanda being the boss of the whole company, Ella would like to be in her shoes at some point."

Meanwhile, insiders dish that the drama is juicy: Amanda's first act upon returning to Melrose is to fire Ella's boss, Caleb (Victor Webster), on the spot (what goes around comes around, buddy), so naturally Ella is practically peeing herself whenever she's forced to be in Amanda's presence. As Katie says, "The fans can expect to see a lot of different dynamics to their relationship, but it's mostly like a boss-employee relationship."

Last but not least, stay tuned to the CW Tuesdays at 9 p.m. if you want to find out what happens when everybody's closely guarded scandals, including situations like David's thievery and Lauren's prostitution gig, are revealed. As Katie spills, "Everyone's secrets will come out! I can't say much now, but everyone's secret is eventually revealed.""

CAN'T WAIT !!! Enough said !!!

UPDATE : about the shocking death, Ausiello says "it's not a major character".

From Kristin : "Someone's gonna die! It's a big character and a big death. So big that I can't even tell you male or female or how or when or why. Well, I guess I can say that it'll happen—wait for it—sometime this season! I know, I know. I am nothing if not a giver of the most intricate details! This death is tied to a bigger storyline as well, so I'm under lock and key on this one so I don't ruin the whole season. Are you guys digging Melrose, BTW? So far it has exceeded my expectations.
Melrose Place
's morally mixed-up Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) might be getting a boyfriend. Producers are looking to cast a hot young resident named Gavin who meets Lauren at the hospital. Gavin's going to start as a guest star, but he might become a series regular, which leads us to suspect that he falls in love with Lauren, a situation that would no doubt complicate her hooker gig enormously."

Who's dying ? Who's dying ? Who's dying ? Michael ? Amanda ? Probably one of the newbies ! I really hope it's not Ella !!! Or David ! I'm guessing Violet : she's too messed up !! But the show NEEDS a character like that (some sort of mix between Sidney and Kimberley !! We'll see who it is but I'm intrigued !!

Ausiello about Jane's return on the new Melrose : "It sure seemed like they were setting her up for a lengthy stay, right? Well, believe it or not, she’s not scheduled to make any future appearances. “I don’t get it either,” Bissett confesses. “I don’t understand their plans with some of us. My feeling is they’re bringing us in to get the show started. Which is great… I guess the key is they want the young cast to take over and take old the show and not count on the old cast. We’re obviously drawing in a different audience. For me I guess it’s just going to be show by show. I’m kind of in the dark. It’s like, okay. What happened to all that stuff Jane said she was going to do? But that’s typical Melrose. Jane will be back. I just don’t know how or when.”"

It's exactly what they did with the new 90210 ! I understand that the CW's audience is basically teenagers, junior high and high school kids and maybe some college kids. So it's logical for them to rely on the new cast and not the old. But it's also a bit stupid on their part because mixing the old with the new (even if they keep the new cast front and center) would bring in a much wider audience !!!
But that's their choice and their strategy ! We'll see if I keep watching ! I have to admit I'm getting really bored of the new 90210 ! But it's centered around teenagers whereas Melrose is about young adults.

Well, it's been 3 episodes and I still like it ! I actually really enjoy it ! Although I stand on my positions :
- they still need to do something about that freaking fake sky above the complex
- Lauren is still too cold
- Riley and Jonah are still blah and so not interesting !
- It does make for a great plot but they really shouldn't have killed Sidney !! There's so much to tell with her alive ! Starting with her "daughter"
But for the good parts :
- Ella
- Ella
- And Ella ! Although she can be a little too over-dramatic in her acting but I guess that's what the part is all about !
- David's storyline has potential
- Violet is so freaky ! I can't wait for her to meet her badass aunt Jane !!
- I still don't know what to think of Oggie : his acting feels forced most of the time !
One thing I find stupid on their part is imitating the original triangle with good girl Riley (Alison) vs bad girl Ella (Amanda) fighting for Jonah's (Billy's) attention ! We all know Ella's gonna get Jonah but it's not gonna work. They're not compatible. The only reason why it's not such a bad idea is that it gives Ella some humanity : she too can be in love and really care for someone is what they're trying to tell us. She's more suited for David but I hope this doesn't happen for a while !

There is one couple on the original I feel would have been great together : Amanda and Michael ! They had the potential to be funny and romantic at the same time ! Schemers with a redemption power !

Anyway, for now, I'm still in and I hope they keep getting stronger !!

From Kristin :
"Heather Locklear, who? Josie Bissett returns to Melrose Place this week—and is more badass than we remembered!

Fashion designer Jane Andrews Mancini is back at everyone's favorite apartment complex to fill the landlord void left by her late sis Sydney (Laura Leighton), and her homecoming certainly does not disappoint. Jane is going toe-to-toe with Melrose's resident queen bee Ella (Katie Cassidy) and the seemingly friendly exchange quickly turns into an all-out bitchfest.

As luck would have it, Syd wasn't as disconnected as we've been led to believe and Jane has some rather incriminating info on a few of her new tenants. No reunion with ex-hubby Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) yet, but fingers crossed."

Awesome !! Here is the promo :

And here is a sneak peek :
